Personal Life
John Mayer has dated more than his fair share of celebrities. In 2002, he was briefly linked to actress Jennifer Love Hewitt and reportedly wrote his song "Your Body is a Wonderland" about her. In 2006, he began dating songstress Jessica Simpson. His fans were disappointed that the seemingly intellectual Mayer was interested in the proverbial dumb blonde. However, Mayer seemed happy with Simpson. He told Ryan Seacrest in Japanese that "She's a lovely woman and I'm glad to be with her." In 2007 the couple split but reunited briefly before finally calling it quits in June. By October, Mayer's wounds had healed and he appeared "flirty" and "all over each other" with Cameron Diaz in New York City. Shortly thereafter he began dating actress Minka Kelly. The couple split in January 2008. In April 2008, Mayer began dating actress Jennifer Aniston.
Career
Mayer spent two semesters at Boston's Berklee College of Music before moving to Atlanta, where he played clubs and self-released his first album, Inside Wants Out. He landed a contract with Columbia Records after being scouted at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in 2000. In 2001, he released his first major label debut, Room For Squares. The album did extremely well and made Mayer a household name. In 2003 he won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance for "Your Body is a Wonderland." He continued to win Grammys, winning two for his next album and two more for his third.
