Teen superstar Miley Cyrus and upcoming teen sensation Selena Gomez are the latest Disney good girls to be in a battle of words, one that some are thinking rivals that of the great Lindsay Lohan/Hilary Duff battle in the late 90's. Both girls have millions of fans rallying behind them and the internet divided, with the "Team Miley" and "Team Selena" shirts becoming products available in the near future.

Why?
Miley, star of Hannah Montana, and Selena were once seen as friends. Selena did an episode of Hannah Montana and has her own show on Disney called "The Wizards of Waverly Place." With scandal over the Vanity Fair issue that Miley did hitting critical mass, many media outlets began to speculate who would take the place of the teen queen if Disney decided to pull Miley off her throne. When Selena's name kept popping up as the next "Miley Cyrus", the press began to ask Miley what she thought of Selena. She answered that question for Extra on July 25, 2008 by saying, "I don’t think there could be a next Miley. I think they should be the next Selena ... and make their own way."
Miley's YouTube Spoof
In a video posted on Miley and BFF Mandy's YouTube channel back in March of 2008, Miley and Mandy decide to do a parody. The parody is of fellow Disney teens Selena and Demi Lovato's YouTube videos. Most fans of both sides saw this as a joke at first. But when it was picked up by different celebrity blogs, new life was given to the old YouTube videos.

Is there a Jonas Brother connection?
Miley and Nick Jonas began dating while they were on tour together in 2007. Their relationship ended in December of 2007 and Miley moved on to someone new while Nick began looking for someone to heal that Miley-shaped hole in his heart. Amazingly enough, there was another Disney teen star who fit the bill plus was older by a whole 5 months than Miley. That was Selena. Both have played coy about the relationship but one of their friends, with Selena saying that all the Jonas boys were her friends. But another well-intentioned Disney star Cody Linley, let it slip that the two are together.

Many think that Miley, who dedicated her latest hit CD to Nick, might be upset over the new relationship and how it's being played out in front of the cameras as her relationship with him was. Miley is dating someone new but the rumors continue, especially with the old YouTube videos resurfacing right after it was leaked about the Selena/Nick relationship.
