Hobo Chic is the look pioneered by Mary-Kate Olsen, so called because it looks thrown-together and usually includes a huge hobo-style handbag. The look is a relative of Boho Chic and is characterized by lots of layers and accessories, mixing the comfy and casual with the polished.

Mary Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate, as the pioneer of the look, obviously does it best. Her huge handbags were the first thing to begin turning heads and thus became the hallmark of the Hobo Chic look. Along with the expensive handbag comes large sunglasses, yards and yards of fabric, chunky rings and bangles, boots, and sometimes cozy scarves.

Copycats

After the public began to take notice of Mary-Kate's look, other celebrities began to ride the Hobo Chic rails. Not surprisingly, considering the delicate balance that one needs to consider when attempting Hobo Chic, there are many failures.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lonan is quick to jump on the boxcar with Mary-Kate.

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst has been spotted on the sloppier side of the train yard.

Katie Holmes

In July 2008, on the set of Eli Stone, Katie Holmes flunks the look. Seriously, WTF? Not even glasses, a scarf, and a huge handbag could save this.

Courtney Love

Courtney Love takes it one step further and actually looks like a hobo.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman bundles up and accidentally stumbles upon the look.
